Take action

Fossil Fuel Treaty

In 2024, we are supporting the Global Justice Now campaign for Scotland to be the first European nation to endorse a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Why Scotland must join the call for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty

  • The fossil fuel industry spends around £150 million each year to delay, control or block policies to tackle climate change. They will not plan their own demise.
  • It’s time to end the fossil fuel era and to take away the power of corporations who have made vast profits from fuelling the climate emergency.
  • An International agreement to plan the end of fossil fuel exploration and extraction is needed to keep within the 1.5 degree C threshold of the UN Paris Agreement.
  • Scotland could become the first European nation to endorse the call for a fossil fuel treaty and lead the way for other countries.
