after Postscript by Seamus Heaney
last night I dreamt
I opened my eyes
and I was here now
here in stillness
in the way that stillness has
of being everything
in its emptiness
empty of clatter and clang and
blah blah blah
empty of 'this shouldn’t be happening'
or 'he is a madman'
or 'omg what is going on ...!?'
last night I dreamt I didn't give a hoot
I had stopped being outraged
at the world
I had moved into the softness of no opinion
a gentle landing on top of the eiderdown
of being here
in paradise now
I buried my face in blossoms of soft apricot
gentle pink zingy orange
and the lime green honesty
shining in the sun
caught my heart off guard
the table
it's only rain squidging earth into
muddy puddles
it's only cows calling to each
other in the barn
and nearby fields
it's only lichen spotted
slate tiles shiny
dripping
by what magic did this
wet November eve
turn into paradise:
a long table in the kitchen
where poets and the farmer
gather
