This privacy notice tells you about the information we collect from you when you sign-up to our newsletter, or enter one of our competitions. In collecting your information, we are acting as a data controller and, by law, we are required to provide you with information about us, about why and how we use your data, and about the rights you have over your data.

Who are we?

We are a voluntary collective of writers and artists focussed on the climate and ecological emergency. We are not a formally constituted group. You can contact us by email at: hello@paperboats.org 

We are not required to have a data protection officer, so any enquiries about our use of your personal data should be addressed to the contact details above.

What personal data do we collect?

When you subscribe to our newsletter we collect your name and email address. When you enter one of our competitions, we ask you for your name, your email address and your postcode, along with any other information required for entry into the competition or prize draw.

Why do we collect this information?

Our mailing list is accessed only by trusted volunteers for the purposes of keeping you up to date with Paperboats news and events. For our competitions, we will use your information to determine whether you have won according to the competition or prize draw rules. In the event that you win we will notify you of this via email. Your name along with any other information required for entry will be disclosed to the competition organisers and judges, and may be published. We collect and process this information on the basis of your legitimate interests in participating in the competition and in claiming the prize in the event that you win.

What do we do with your information?

Our mailing list is hosted by Mailchimp who utilise the latest tech to secure its data, and DDOS mitigation at all data centres. Competition entires are collected and stored in a database owned and operated by our web host Kyrstal.io and will only be shared with competition organisers and judges. We will never sell your information or share your information with third parties except where you have consented to sign a specific petition / charter from a trusted partner, or asked us to share your information with your political representatives. 

How long do we keep your information for?

Your data is retained for as long as you subscribe to our mailing list. You can unsubscribe at any time. For competitions, your contact information is kept for 1 year after the closing date of the competition or prize draw.

Your rights over your information

By law, you can ask us what information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate. You can also ask for it to be erased and you can ask for us to give you a copy of the information. You can also ask us to stop using your information – the simplest way to do this is to withdraw your consent, which you can do at any time, either by clicking the unsubscribe link at the end of any newsletter, or by emailing us using the contact details above.
